The Buffalo Grove Park District is seeking zoning approval to construct a pump track for bicycles and scooters, as well as a shade structure that exceeds the maximum height allowed at Mike Rylko Park. The village board will review the proposal at its meeting on September 16.
According to the proposal in the Village of Buffalo Grove Board of Trustees' September 16 agenda, a pump track is designed for cycling and scootering. It would expand the skate park's utility beyond its current design, which is geared toward skateboarders and in-line skaters.
The proposal also includes a shade structure for the Nature Classroom within the park that would exceed 16.5 feet, surpassing the maximum height of 15 feet. The pump track and the shade sail will be set back more than the required minimum of 25 feet from property lines.
According to the same agenda, the Planning and Zoning Commission made a unanimous recommendation to approve the zoning variations. One complaint was made about noise and light pollution caused by current park amenities.
