Lake County Sheriff's crash investigators are examining an early morning accident in Wadsworth that trapped two men inside their vehicle, leaving one with life-threatening injuries. The single-vehicle accident was reported at 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 15.
According to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release, deputies responded to a call at Route 41 and Kelly Road in Wadsworth for the single-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, deputies found a Dodge Ram 1500 with serious damage.
The news release said that a 19-year-old Kenosha, Wisconsin, man had been driving the truck northbound on Route 41 approaching Kelly Road. The driver told deputies he was looking at his GPS and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The truck left the road, hit a light pole, and then drove into a ditch. It went airborne, struck two trees, and landed on the driver's side. Both the driver and his 19-year-old male passenger, also from Kenosha, were trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters extricated the two men from the truck. Both were taken to an area hospital. The passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and remained in critical condition while the driver suffered minor injuries.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is investigating the crash.
