Dan McConchie, still in the middle of his 4-year term, has announced his resignation as State Senator for the 26th Illinois Senate District. McConchie has served in the position since 2016 and rose to the position of Senate Minority Leader, a position he held from 2021 to 2023.
McConchie’s replacement will be determined by a weighted vote of the Republican County and Township leaders in his senate district. McConchie has endorsed Joe Salvi for the position. Joe is a young lawyer who lives in Barrington and is the son of Illinois Republican Party Chairwoman Kathy Salvi.
The Senate district is made up of the 51st and 52nd House Districts. The 52nd House District is represented by Republican Marty McLaughlin who is seeking appointment to fill the remaining Senate term vacated by McConchie.

Former State Representative Jeanne Ives said she backs McLaughlin 100 percent.
“Marty is well known in that district from his time as a mayor of Barrington Hills for eight years and he has longtime relationships with key people in the district,” Ives said. “His experience at the local level is invaluable in sorting through policy differences that arise in Springfield. As someone who works in the pension industry, Marty’s expertise is especially needed at this time as discussions are going on to reverse Tier 2 to Tier 1 benefits. Doing so would increase our pension debt by an estimated $30 billion. As the Senate has been more effective in recent years at stopping terrible legislation, Marty’s voice and vote in that chamber would be an important signal to his House colleagues on how to vote on legislation. I also appreciate that Marty has been unafraid to challenge leadership in his own party when necessary, in order to advance conservative issues Republicans care about.”
