Coalers achieve two first-place finishes at final regular season speech tournament

Yolanda Hossack Central Office Secretary: Curriculum | Coal City Community Unit School District 1

The Coalers closed out the regular season with two first-place finishes in one of the most competitive speech tournaments of the year.

Team members traveled to Aurora on Saturday, Feb. 1 for the annual Scheidecker Memorial Tournament hosted by Metea Valley High School.

Earning first-place medals were Joran Olson in prose and Madison Wilson in radio speaking. Also placing at the tournament were Corinna Barkley, fourth in special occasion speaking; Grey Vanek, fifth in humorous interpretation; Madison Wilson, fifth in dramatic interpretation; and Olivia Sage and Jordan Olson, fifth in dramatic duet acting.

State series competition begins Saturday, Feb. 8 with the Coalers competing in the Bradley-Bourbonnais Regional.
