West Oak Middle School has been redesignated as a 2025 Illinois Horizon School to Watch, recognizing its efforts in multiple areas of educational excellence. The designation is part of a statewide initiative that identifies schools demonstrating strong academic programs, student support, and effective organizational structures.

The recognition is based on four key areas. The school promotes academic excellence by encouraging students to engage in rigorous learning. It prioritizes developmental responsiveness by addressing the needs of early adolescents. The school ensures social equity by providing all students with access to high-quality resources and support. Additionally, its organizational structures and processes are designed to sustain and enhance its commitment to continuous improvement.

This award places West Oak Middle School within a distinguished network of over 400 Schools to Watch nationwide, celebrating best practices in education.

The school expressed gratitude towards its community for this achievement, saying, "Thank you to our students, staff, and families for making this achievement possible."

West Oak Middle School, located at 26156 N. Acorn Lane in Mundelein, Illinois, serves students in grades 6 through 8. As part of Diamond Lake School District 76, West Oak Middle School offers programs such as choir and band, including two jazz bands, Jazz I and Jazz II.
