Mundelein Park & Recreation District (MPRD) has announced the commencement of phase 1 renovations of the Health & Fitness Center. The initial phase will result in a temporary shutdown of the facility from Monday, March 31 to Wednesday, April 9. During this period, the Strength & Cardio areas, "stretching room," and indoor track will be inaccessible.

The renovations aim to introduce new activity-specific flooring throughout the spaces to promote accessibility, improve user experience, and reduce sound associated with equipment impact. Additionally, there will be a new layout for both strength and cardio areas alongside visual improvements such as fresh paint.

MPRD has made accommodations for its members during this renovation period. A temporary health & fitness center will be set up on one of the basketball courts in the gymnasium. This makeshift gym will include treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, dumbbells, and a single squat rack. Furthermore, the perimeter of the basketball court will be available for use as a walking track.

Existing Health & Fitness Center members will also receive access to Lakeview Fitness at Vernon Hills Park District during the shutdown upon presentation of a valid membership ID.

MPRD staff expressed excitement about continuing phase 1 renovations and noted that additional improvements and renovation phases would be announced in due course. They also mentioned that areas might reopen earlier depending on task completion.
