Roosevelt Elementary School recently honored Aria Mehta, a fifth-grader, as the school's D64 Shining Star. According to teachers and peers, Mehta consistently embodies the D64 mission to discover, learn, grow, and care.
During the February School Board meeting, Roosevelt Principal Dr. Kevin Dwyer presented the honor by sharing testimonials from those who know her well. Roosevelt Teacher Caroline Mahon said, "Aria goes above and beyond for every assignment she does. She cares about learning, not because she wants to get a good grade or praise from her teacher, but because she values the process of discovery. "
Another teacher, Kristin Park, commented on Mehta's enthusiasm for education: "Aria has always shown a thirst for knowledge. Her dedication to grow and improve is exceptional. "
Dr. Dwyer recounted a recent interaction with Mehta when she visited his office to learn more about Roosevelt's history for a writing project. "I started telling her some basic facts, and I could see the gleam in your eye. You wanted more," he said. This led them to explore a display case showcasing Roosevelt’s 90-year history.
During their exploration, Mehta expressed interest in taking home a binder filled with historical facts about the school. Dr. Dwyer remarked on this moment as an example of her commitment to learning rather than focusing solely on grades: "That moment was about you investing in discovery and learning and not about a grade."
"She cares about the work she does and how it will make her a better person," added another testimonial shared during the meeting. "And our school and world [are] better place[s] because of her efforts."
