Jay Swidler, chairman of the Vernon Township Republicans, expressed support for President Trump's address to Congress, describing it as a powerful advocacy for a stronger and self-reliant nation driven by economic growth and America-first policies. Swidler made his statement to the Lake County Gazette on March 6.

"President Trump's address to Congress reaffirmed his dedication to rebuilding America through economic resurgence, government reform, and decisive action against inflation," said Swidler. "hough Democrats attempted to drown out his words with protests and hostility, their theatrics could not alter the fundamental truth of his vision. By cutting red tape and fighting to lower essential costs, Trump is ensuring that prosperity reaches every corner of the nation. His speech made it clear: America's best days are not behind us but still ahead."

According to Fox News, President Trump delivered his first major speech to Congress in his second term, outlining his administration’s priorities. He emphasized efforts such as federal downsizing under Elon Musk and addressed inflation concerns, particularly rising grocery costs. The speech elicited partisan reactions—Republicans applauded while Democrats remained seated, holding signs reading "False." Trump cited examples of government waste and concluded with a call to action, expressing optimism for the country’s future and declaring that a "golden age of America" was beginning.

In a March 5 post on its website, the White House reported on the reception of President Trump's address before Congress. The White House said that during his first address to a joint session of Congress in his second term, President Donald J. Trump delivered a powerful speech highlighting the accomplishments of his first six weeks in office and charting a course for four years of prosperity. The address received widespread acclaim; 76% of Americans approved of the speech according to a CBS poll, while a CNN poll showed 69% had a positive reaction.

Swidler, who resides in Buffalo Grove, was first elected as Chairman of the Vernon Township Republicans in 2024. According to the organization’s website, he is focused on boosting Republican voter turnout, growing the Party’s membership, and communicating the Party’s positions on issues that matter to Vernon Township voters.
