Mar 7, 2025

Winfield School District has announced recent student achievements and upcoming events in its latest update. The district praised students for their generosity, kindness, and leadership, highlighting their efforts in supporting the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.

"The success of this drive speaks volumes about the compassion and character of our students and families," said the district. Positive feedback from various community interactions was also noted.

The district reminded that Illinois law (105 ILCS 5/27-3) requires public schools to provide an opportunity for daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. While participation is voluntary, this tradition aims to foster civic awareness and unity. "Schools play a key role in helping students understand their rights and responsibilities as members of a democratic society," the statement read.

Daily classroom meetings, advisory sessions, and engaging learning activities continue to help develop empathetic, responsible citizens. "Thank you for your continued support in shaping the next generation of great citizens," the district added.

Upcoming events include:

- **Seeking 2025 Tiger Run Sponsors:** Local businesses are invited to sponsor this year’s Tiger Run fundraiser. Interested parties should respond by March 31, 2025.

- **Spring Classroom Party:** Scheduled for Friday, March 28th for Pre-K-5th grades with specific time slots allocated.

- **Next PTO/WEF Meeting:** Wednesday, March 12th at 7 p.m., open to all.

The update also shared classroom highlights across various grades:

- Third graders worked on prefixes and narrative journal entries while starting animal research projects.

- Fourth graders analyzed poetry by Langston Hughes and William Wordsworth among others.

- Fifth graders compared characters from different texts and explored fraction multiplication strategies.

- Sixth graders analyzed story elements in "A Wrinkle in Time" for their final essay.

- Seventh graders wrote essays reflecting on themes in their class novel "Unbound."
