The 2025 District 64 Solo & Ensemble Festivals brought together over 600 student musicians for two evenings of performances and learning experiences. The Band Solo & Ensemble Festival occurred on February 6th, followed by the Orchestra Solo & Ensemble Festival on March 6th. Both events provided students with an opportunity to showcase their musical talents in a supportive environment.

Each festival featured students performing either as soloists or in small ensembles, such as duets, trios, and quartets. Participants prepared and refined their selected pieces in advance to ensure they were performance-ready for the festivals. Students performed in front of an audience of family and friends while being evaluated by a judge who provided feedback on elements such as tone, technique, and musical expression.

One unique aspect of the Solo & Ensemble Festivals is the focus on personal growth and confidence-building. The festivals are designed for students to challenge themselves musically while receiving individualized feedback to help them improve. In their lesson following the festival, students were awarded medals in recognition of their dedication and hard work.

“These festivals are a true celebration of our students' hard work, dedication, and musical growth,” said Erica Faulhaber, Curriculum Specialist for Instrumental Music. “It is inspiring to see them take ownership of their music, perform with confidence, and support one another throughout the process. ”

These evenings showcased the commitment of District 64’s young musicians as well as the support of their families, music teachers, and the community. Events like the Solo & Ensemble Festivals continue to foster a love of music and provide students with essential performance experience that will benefit them for years to come.
