Vernon Hills recognizes June as Pride Month with various celebrations

The Village of Vernon Hills is recognizing June as Pride Month, joining municipalities and organizations worldwide in celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. The Village aims to foster a welcoming, inclusive, equitable, accepting, and safe environment for all residents.

"The Village joins with municipalities and organizations around the world in recognizing June as Pride Month," said a statement from the Village. Community members are encouraged to eliminate prejudice by accepting all residents as equals and honoring diversity through this celebration.

Throughout June, Pride banners designed by Vernon Hills High School students will be displayed on light posts around the Village. The community expresses gratitude for ongoing support in promoting an environment of respect, safety, and celebration.

Resources available during Pride Month include:

- Anti-Defamation League: LGBTQ+ Pride Month and Education

- History: Pride Month 2025

- Library of Congress: The History of Pride

Support organizations include:

- LGBTQ+ Center Lake County

- Equality Illinois

- GLAAD

- Human Rights Campaign: LGBT!+ Youth Resources

- PFLAG

- The Trevor Project

Several events are scheduled throughout the month:

- Buffalo Grove Pride Parade – Sunday, June 1 at 11 a.m.

- Lake County PrideFest – Saturday, June 14 at Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center

- Hawthorn Mall Pride Celebration – Saturday, June 21 from noon to 5 p.m.

- Chicago Pride Fest – June 21 and June \22

- Chicago Pride Parade – Sunday, June \29 at \11 a.m.
