At the June 3 meeting, the Board recognized two Barrington High School journalism students for their achievements at the IHSA State Journalism Competition in Normal, Illinois. Rising senior Alex Brudvik was awarded first place in the state for double-page design. RyAnn Brown, a student from the class of 2025, also achieved first place in sports writing. Brown intends to pursue studies in journalism and education at the University of Missouri next year.
Additionally, BHS senior Sabrina Roach was acknowledged for securing one of 12 positions on the 2025 Illinois Journalism Education Association All-State Journalism Team. The team honors students who have demonstrated significant contributions to their school media, including yearbook and various forms of newspapers and magazines.
Sabrina Roach plans to attend New York University's Stern School of Business next year. During the past school year, she served as Print Editor-in-Chief of BHS RoundUp, Barrington High School's student-run newspaper under staff member Laura Minera's guidance. RyAnn Brown held the position of Online Arts & Entertainment Editor, while Alex Brudvik was the print Opinions Editor.
