As the summer season comes to a close, Wauconda Park District staff are preparing for the upcoming Wauconda Triathlons, signaling the transition to fall. Executive Director Tim Staton expressed appreciation for community involvement in recent events and acknowledged the challenges faced during this year’s Wauconda Fest.
“Thank You Volunteers! I want to offer a big THANK YOU to all the members of the community that make our special events awesome. So many of you give your time to Wauconda Fest, Triathlons, sports leagues, and programs. The generosity of our community is unparalleled to any other community. Thank you for making Wauconda a great place to live, work, and play,” Staton said.
Staton noted that weather conditions affected attendance at this year’s Fest, with storms causing early closures on two evenings and extreme heat reducing crowds on Sunday afternoon. Despite these setbacks, he praised the dedication of the Fest Committee: “This did not put a damper on our Fest Committee as they pushed through the heat and were present and available throughout the weekend. Many of the Fest Committee members have been with us for several years. They are the backbone of the Fest and continue to do a great job year after year.”
The message also highlighted long-term commitment from volunteers involved in organizing local triathlons: “In addition, we have a steering committee for the Wauconda Triathlons. Again, many of them have been with us since the beginning 19 years ago. These men and women are the backbone of the Triathlons and keep staff motivated to keep doing it every year. Can’t wait for year 20 in 2026.”
Staton extended thanks to various government agencies and organizations that support district events: “Last, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the government agencies we work with to help make these events possible. Wauconda Park District Staff, The Village of Wauconda, Public Works, Wauconda Police Department, Wauconda Township, CERT, Wauconda Fire District, Wauconda Fire District Cadets, Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce, and Wauconda Area Library all lend support and manpower and expertise to our events. It is a pleasure partnering with all of you for the betterment of our community.”
Progress at Osage Park was also mentioned in Staton’s message. He reported significant redevelopment over the summer and encouraged residents to watch social media channels and the district website for updates about an upcoming grand reopening event.
“As always, thank you all for your continued support. I hope to see you at a park, program, or an event this fall. Enjoy the rest of what summer has to offer and take time for fun this fall,” Staton concluded.
