Families in Winfield School District 34 recently attended Curriculum Night, an event designed to foster home–school connections and support student learning. The evening provided families the chance to meet teachers, learn about classroom routines, and discuss ways to collaborate for student success. “Curriculum Night is an important opportunity for families to meet teachers, learn about classroom routines and expectations, and see how we can work together to help every child succeed. We are grateful for the time you took to connect with us and invest in your child’s school experience,” said Melissa Doucet.

As the school year continues, administrators emphasized the importance of regular attendance. They highlighted that each day builds on previous lessons and consistent presence helps students feel confident. “I know mornings can be hectic and we all feel tired at times, but we can help by reminding ourselves each morning that ‘We got this!’ Thank you for supporting your child in being present and ready to learn each day. It truly makes a difference,” Doucet stated.

The district also reported a strong start to the fall sports season, noting high levels of energy and participation among students at volleyball matches and soccer games. Coaches were thanked for their leadership during these events: “Students are not only showing their skills but also their teamwork, perseverance, and pride in representing Winfield. A big thank you to our coaches for their time, leadership, and commitment to our student-athletes.”

Community involvement was evident at the recent Winfield Good Old Days Parade. “It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces... I am reminded what a special community we have,” said Doucet.

In compliance with state law, Winfield schools will continue conducting safety drills throughout the year—including fire, severe weather, lockdowns, and other emergency preparedness exercises—to ensure everyone knows how to respond during real emergencies. The administration stressed that these drills are conducted calmly with staff support: “Safety is our top priority, and these drills help us create a secure environment for all students and staff.”

Looking ahead, students are invited to attend the Half Day Social event at Founders Park after early dismissal on September 12th. Activities will include games like kickball and bingo; alternative arrangements will be made if there is inclement weather.

The district announced plans for a new online spirit wear store featuring direct-to-home shipping once it launches.

Academic highlights from this week included first grade reviewing short vowel sounds through various activities while middle schoolers participated in team-building exercises such as constructing towers from cups together.
