Faculty, staff, and administrators from Coal City Middle School will be working behind the counter at Coal City McDonald’s for McTeacher’s Night on Wednesday, September 17. The event is organized to raise funds for school programming.

During the fundraiser, which runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the school will receive 20 percent of all digital app sales if purchases are made using the McDonald’s app. “As in the past, 100% of all pie sales go directly to the middle school and they must be purchased with cash, so bring your dollar bills and spare change because any tip the teachers receive they keep for their school.”

Coal City Community Unit School District 1 includes Coal City Middle School along with other schools in Grundy and Will counties. According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education, there are 153 teachers in the district with an average salary of $69,297 before pension contributions; most are women, and none have more than ten absences in a year. Additional demographic details show that 86.9 percent of students are White, while Hispanic students make up nearly ten percent. The district spent $21,619 per student in 2020 for a total expenditure of $47 million.
