The Park District of Highland Park has opened Club Pickle & Padel, a new indoor facility dedicated to paddle sports. The club is located on Skokie Valley Road and features a large white dome that distinguishes it from other sports complexes in the area.

Nick Baird, Director of Recreation for the Park District, said, “From the moment members and guests step into Club Pickle & Padel, they immediately feel the energy and warmth of the space. The lobby, lounge, pro shop, and rental areas were designed to be welcoming and comfortable, creating an environment where people want to gather, linger, and connect.”

The 50,000-square-foot club includes amenities such as a lounge with comfortable seating and décor designed to encourage visitors to stay after their games. Private shower rooms and an indoor rental space called “The Lawn” are available for events like parties or corporate gatherings.

Highland Park native Ron Saslow played a significant role in developing the facility. As a founding member of Club Pickle & Padel and lifelong athlete who grew up using local parks, Saslow said he wanted to bring something exceptional to the community. “Pickleball brings people together in a way few other sports can,” Saslow said. “It’s inclusive, easy to learn, and fun for all ages.”

According to the Park District Board of Commissioners and staff members involved in the project, Club Pickle & Padel replaces an older seasonal dome with a year-round venue meant for both competition and social interaction.

Robyn Liewehr, General Manager of Racquet Sports for the Park District, emphasized the design focus: “We designed these courts for serious players,” Liewehr said. “We wanted the spacing, the lighting, the acoustics—absolutely everything in the Club—to support the best possible playing experience.”

For those new to pickleball or padel, Head Pro Justin Dill provides quick skill evaluations before helping participants find suitable leagues or activities.

Padel is gaining popularity alongside pickleball at this facility. Liewehr explained that many tennis players are now trying padel: “We’re seeing a lot of tennis players come in curious,” she said. “And once they try it, they’re hooked. The price makes it really accessible, plus it’s just plain fun!”

Memberships are offered with different options tailored for juniors, families, and seniors. Members also receive benefits such as priority reservations on outdoor courts managed by the Park District.

Events hosted at Club Pickle & Padel include corporate team-building sessions and birthday celebrations.
