Desang Tenzin, a member of the Lake Forest College class of 2028, has continued her commitment to community improvement by working on a project in Bhutan. Tenzin, who is majoring in computer science and economics, has a history of involvement in social initiatives in her home country.

At age ten, Tenzin joined Design for Change, a program aimed at fostering a proactive mindset among young students. In high school, she led a volunteer effort to build toilets in a Bhutanese elementary school through the Global Youth Action Fund. More recently, she returned to Bhutan as part of the Davis Projects for Peace program to remodel a monastery.

Projects for Peace is an initiative that invites students from United World College (UWC) partner institutions to develop grassroots projects focused on promoting peace. Since 2019, Lake Forest College students have participated in this program, undertaking projects such as building libraries in Kosovo and working to reduce stigma around Parkinson’s disease in Uganda.
