To consider an amendment to the Deerfield Comprehensive Plan, the Deerfield Plan Commission will hold a public hearing 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Village Hall.
The session will convene in the building’s Robert Franz Council Chambers at 850 Waukegan Road to address the progress made by a task force of residents originally commissioned in 2013 to envision a framework for recommended enhancements to the Northwest Quadrant of the Village Center.
Deerfield’s Northwest Quadrant stands among proposed improvements in the area located west of the public library in Jewett Park. When the group was first appointed, Trustee Tom Jester was named the chairman of the task force. With 17 members and two staff members, the Northwest Quadrant Unified Task Force consists of major stakeholders in the quadrant, including the Park District, library, village, Presbyterian Church, AT&T, commercial property owners, chairmen of the Plan Commission, VCDC, ARC, plus a Sustainability Commission member.
Having submitted their report to the Village Board of Trustees in August 2013, the task force learned that their preliminary work was accepted by the board; village staff members were asked to continue discussions with stakeholders. Among the top priorities for the area are a lack of pedestrian accessibility, parking lot and roadway connectivity, inadequate space for safe dropoff points for children’s day cares and an overall lack of a unified design.
