Thirteen promises to be good luck this year, as Vernon Hills will host its 13th annual Oktoberfest celebration on Sept. 23, offering activities for kids, hayrides, food, drink and entertainment at the Vernon Hills Metra Station.
The day will start at 3 p.m. with balloon sculpting, caricature drawings and, while supplies last, free kids’ crafts and pumpkin painting. From 3 to 5 p.m., the Mario Tricoci School will be on hand for face painting, and Record a Hits will offer inflatables from 3 to 7 p.m.
The hayrides, sponsored by the Vernon Hills Park District, will run from 4 to 10 p.m. Food and drink will be available all day. The Cook Memorial Library District will have its Book Mobile on site, and the Lincolnshire/Riverwoods Fire Protection District will be on hand with fire trucks.
The VHR Band will play from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and B Side Band will take the stage from 7:30 to 9:45 p.m., with R&R Sound Productions providing the sound and lighting.
