Grant Community High School District 124 recently issued the following announcement.
The Grant Community High School May Student of the Month is senior Kayla Williams, daughter of Judy Griffeth of Round Lake Beach.
Kayla's academic achievements include induction into the National Honor Society during her sophomore year. She earned the NHS Service Award during both her junior and senior year. She has consistently earned her place on Honor Roll and Scholars’ List and she was named an Illinois State Scholar for 2018. She currently has an amazing 4.924/4.0 GPA.
She is involved in all things music at Grant, which makes her the perfect Peer Music Tutor. She has been a member of Chamber Singers, Destiny’s Chord, Anthem Singers, and Sweet Adeline’s. Some of her accolades are Alto Section Leader, Choir Rookie of the Year, Heralding Trumpet award, and Outstanding Musician award. She has appeared in the Spring Musicals, Spotlight Youth Theater, and the Round Lake Area Park District Theater program.
She was selected to attend the World Affairs Seminar 2017, the NLCC Leadership Conference, and complete a competitive nursing internship at Advocate Condell.
Kayla serves her community in a variety of ways volunteering in the special needs children’s ministry, and the youth and adult worship teams at her church. She is a Guest Services Volunteer at Advocate Condell, she entertains at community events as princess characters, and goes on mission trips to Arizona and recently returned from a mission trip to Haiti.
Kayla works as a children’s theater class assistant, inclusion aide/summer camp counselor at the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County, and a Gap sales associate. She will be interning at her church under the worship pastor this summer.
Her plans for the future include earning a degree major in nursing with a minor in global studies at Liberty University.
