Libertyville FD responds to 100 fires in 2017

Libertyville Fire Department responded to 807 calls in 2017 - 6.2 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Libertyville included 100 fires - 65 structure fires, 21 vehicle fires and 14 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $53,050 in fire loss - or about $531 per fire.

The department also received 706 false calls, including two malicious calls and 704 other false calls.

The Libertyville Fire Department had an annual budget of $3,093,726 in 2017.

The Libertyville Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 41 active employees and 27 retired or inactive employees, was $1,442,326 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $13,869 for every fire in 2016.
