Vernon Hills Community High School District 128 students suspended 44 times in a single school year

Vernon Hills Community High School District 128 reported 44 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 44 students during the year. That equates to 1.3 percent of the 3,308 students enrolled.

Of the 34 in-school suspensions, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 15 incidents. There were 10 incidents of tobacco. For 22 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 10 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes four incidents. There were two incidents of alcohol. For five incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
