VILLAGE OF VOLO: Hydrant Flushing Will Commence the Week of October 14th

Village of Volo issued the following announcement on Oct. 11.

Starting October 14th, the Village will begin a system-wide hydrant flushing over the next several weeks. The flushing is being performed to turn over our existing water supply to Lake Michigan water, which will be coming online shortly. Hydrant flushing can cause water pressure to be lower than normal or appear rust-colored due to the stirring up of the iron and mineral deposits in the water. Iron is naturally occurring from ground water wells and deposits in the ductile iron pipe that make up the underground water system. Water is safe to consume during hydrant flushing.

Not all areas will be affected and any issues of lower pressure or water discoloration will be temporary. If residents notice any discoloration, they are encouraged to let their faucets run for a few minutes until water is cleared. It is strongly recommended that residents refrain from laundering clothing while the water is discolored.

Hydrant flushing will take place during the daytime between the hours of 9AM and 4PM.

If you have any questions, please contact the Village Hall at 847-740-6982. We appreciate your patience throughout the process.
