Waukegan FD responds to 243 fires in 2018

Waukegan Fire District responded to 1412 calls in 2018 - 2.3 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Waukegan included 243 fires - 123 structure fires, 30 vehicle fires and 90 other fires. The fire department also responded to 15 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,210,370 in fire loss - or about $9,096 per fire.

The department also received 1154 false calls, including 90 malicious calls and 1064 other false calls.

The calls resulted in four civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Waukegan Fire District had an annual budget of $3,045,648 in 2018.

The Waukegan Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 114 active employees and 125 retired or inactive employees, was $34,628 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $116 for every fire in 2017.
