Village of Fox Lake Board of Police and Fire Commission Met May 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

At the Board of Police and Fire Commission Meeting, held at the above address in Lake County Illinois, the meeting was called to order at 5:05pm by Board Commissioner Kenney. The following official business was transacted:

I. Call to Order 5:05p.m.

II. Roll Call

Commission Members present:

Commissioner Trinski

Commissioner Kenney

Commissioner Huffman

Guests Present:

Chief Jimmy Lee, Jr.

Suesette Trammell

Detective Cody Barker

III. Public Comments:

None

IV. Approval of previous Meeting Minutes:

Commissioner Trinski made a motion to approve the minutes for 1/5/2021, Commissioner Huffman seconded the motion, all were in favor.

V. Unfinished Business:

a. Background application statuses reviewed: The Commission reviewed candidates in the preliminary steps of the investigation process, and recommended to proceed with the investigation of the candidates.

b. There is currently one candidate attending the academy, and he is scheduled to graduate June18th, 2021. Reports from the Academy indicate that the candidate is doing well. However, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Academy briefly shut down. In order to stay on course for graduation, SLEA has required that the candidates attend the Academy on Saturdays as well. Next SLEA Police Academy begins June 21st and runs through September 24th, 2021. There will be a POWER test on June 1st, 2021.

c. The current status of the eligibility list was discussed, and Chief Lee reminded the Board that the primary list is now down to 10 candidates and set to expire in August of this year. A discussion for a pandemic method of establishing a new list, as well as the prospect of lateral hires, has been tabled for future meetings.

VI. New Business:

a. Chief Lee announced that there will be appointments for Commander and Deputy Chief positions at the end of the month. Sergeant Martin and Sergeant Cruz will be appointed to the rank of Commander and Commander DeServi will be appointed to the rank of Deputy Chief.

b. Officers Carreno and Riedel have satisfactorily completed their probationary period. Commissioner Huffman motioned for Officers Carreno and Riedel to be given permanent status, Commissioner Trinski seconded, all were in favor.

c. Chief Lee gave the Commission members an update on the Officers currently on FTO. Officer Lemmer has successfully completed his FTO program and has since been released and is working independently. Officer Risner is still currently in his FTO program due to delays involving the Coronavirus pandemic. He is set to be released from FTO soon.

d. Chief Lee also updated Commissioners on the status of the Department. Chief Lee reported that the Department lost the DOJ grant for 2 Officers due to circumstances beyond our control and the current political climate in regards to Officers in schools. The Department now has authorized personnel strength of 29 sworn Officers. Chief Lee stated that with the appointment of Command staff and the increase in authorized manpower, the Department is looking to further investigate internet crimes within our jurisdiction.

July 6th, 2021 at 5:00 pm

Commissioner Kenney made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:50 p.m., seconded by Kenney.
