The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) office in Waukegan is currently seeking applicants to serve on its Stakeholder Participation Panel. The panel's purpose is to ensure representation of various neighborhoods and issues during the planning process.

According to a Waukegan news release, the panel comprises Waukegan residents, some of whom also represent local agencies or businesses. These individuals express interest in participating in the CDBG planning process.

Those interested are encouraged to complete an application, attach their resume, and submit it to 100 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., 3rd Floor, Waukegan, IL 60085. As per the same news release, applications are self-nominating, meaning individuals can submit their own application without needing nomination from another party. Following submission, applications will be reviewed by both the mayor and the CDBG Department. The mayor will make appointments subject to approval by the City Council.

The Waukegan press release further stipulates that panel members must have resided in Waukegan for at least one year prior to submitting an application. They are appointed for a two-year term and must be willing and able to dedicate necessary time for their duties.

In addition to co-hosting public hearings, panel members assist staff in developing the consolidated plan through assessing and identifying housing and community development assets and needs throughout the community, says the Waukegan news release. Panel members also play a crucial role in reviewing funding applications and making recommendations about resource allocation.
