The Lake County Board has awarded a $5.6 million contract for the resurfacing of 6.17 miles of Gilmer Road to Peter Baker and Son Co., a company based in Lake Bluff, Illinois.
According to the agenda for the Lake County Board's May 14 meeting, the road will be resurfaced from Illinois Route 120 to Illinois Route 176. The planned improvements are set to be carried out under the provisions of the Illinois Highway Code.
The board's agenda further detailed that the work will encompass pavement resurfacing, widening of paved shoulders, installation of left turn lanes at Fish Lake Road and Callahan Road, curb and gutter replacement, guardrail replacement, culvert replacement, shoulder and centerline rumble strip installation among other tasks.
Two bids were received by the county for this project, ranging from $5.6 million to $6.9 million as per the Lake County Board's agenda for its May 14 meeting. The board has allocated $6.7 million from Motor Fuel Tax funds for this undertaking.
