Low-income elderly and disabled residents of Highland Park can receive assistance from the city's volunteer snow shoveling program to clear snow at their residences.

According to a City of Highland Park news release, income-qualified individuals interested in receiving help from the Volunteer Snow Shoveling Program may register in advance. They should contact Social Service Specialist Rachel Trabaris at 847-432-4110.

The news release states that after a snowfall of two inches or more, registered individuals may request assistance with shoveling their home's driveway and walkway. The program will make every effort to secure and dispatch a volunteer team to assist within 48 hours.

Homeowners must provide shovels, ice-melting materials, or other snow removal equipment. Volunteers and residents receiving assistance will be required to complete City of Highland Park liability waivers.

The city welcomes volunteers for the snow shoveling program. To volunteer, request service, or for additional information, contact Trabaris at 847-432-4110 or at rtrabaris@cityhpil.com.
