Lake County Sheriff's deputies have identified and arrested a woman who attempted to rob a gas station clerk in unincorporated Lake Villa on New Year's Day. Deputies responded at 12:25 p.m. to the gas station located in the 36800 block of North Route 83.
"Through diligent work and collaboration, our deputies tracked down and apprehended an offender who posed a threat to others. I’m proud of everyone involved—our telecommunicators who issued the alert, our deputies who investigated, and our law enforcement partners who helped locate this offender," Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, according to a news release.
According to the release, sheriff's deputies learned that a woman entered the gas station, implied she had a firearm, and demanded cash from the clerk. The clerk refused, prompting the woman to attempt breaking into the cash register. When unsuccessful, she fled in a black SUV with out-of-state license plates. Deputies utilized Flock license plate reader technology to identify the suspect's vehicle as likely being a Ford Expedition. Sheriff's 911 Emergency Telecommunicators issued a countywide broadcast with details about the incident. Gurnee Police officers located the vehicle after a Flock camera captured its license plate.
The news release further said that deputies responded to Grand Avenue and Hunt Club Road where Gurnee Police officers had stopped the vehicle. The Sheriff's Office reported that Christina A. Lintner, 40, of Gurnee was driving it. She was subsequently arrested and taken to Lake County Jail.
According to the news release, the Lake County State's Attorney's Office approved charging Lintner with attempted aggravated robbery (class 2 felony). The State's Attorney's office plans to file a petition for her detention while awaiting trial.
