FOIA Request Sent to Summit School District 104 Regarding Emails and Memos on January 28, 2025

On January 28, 2025, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Summit School District 104. The request, made by the Lake County Gazette, sought access to all emails and memos from the past year that contained the keywords "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study."

The Lake County Gazette is a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of their mission to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public, they have invoked their rights under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

In their request, they asked for these records in an electronic format. They also stated that given their role in disseminating information to the public, they believe they are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, and the state average Administrative Salary was $116,908. The average student-to-administrative ratio is 141:1, and the average student-to-teacher ratio is 17:1. Notably, 58% of teachers in Illinois have a master's degree or higher.

At Lake County Gazette we are committed to shedding light on issues affecting our local communities. We believe that transparency in our educational institutions is crucial for maintaining accountability and ensuring high-quality education for our students.
