A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Fox Lake Grade School District 114 regarding emails and memos from the past year. The request, made by the Lake County Gazette on January 28, 2025, specifically asked for any correspondence containing the keywords "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study".

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Lake County Gazette believe access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

The requested information will help us understand more about the internal communication within Fox Lake Grade School District 114 concerning Lucy Calkins' Units of Study, an influential literacy curriculum. As members of the media, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
