Woodland Middle School hosts Black History Month celebration featuring diverse performances

Woodland Middle School invites the community to celebrate Black History Month on Saturday, February 22, 2025. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Cafeteria A at Woodland Middle School, located at 7000 W. Washington St., Gurnee, IL.

The celebration aims to honor and recognize the rich history, culture, and contributions of the Black community both locally and globally.

The program includes musical performances by Woodland’s Kindergarten Class & the Woodland Elementary Choir as well as Yolanda Brooks, founder of ARIZE Beyond School of Music. Dance performances will be presented by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated's Nu Lambda Sigma Chapter Step Show and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated along with ZYA Youth Groups.

Poet Sharon Epps will deliver a spoken word performance, followed by a "Black Dads Rock!" discussion panel.

Additional activities feature family-friendly crafts and art projects, Woodland’s Art Show and Contest with an announcement of contest winners, and food available for purchase from the Supreme Fries & More Food Truck.

This event is open to all Woodland families.
