Coal City boys golf team finishes third at ICE Conference Tournament

Coal City High School's boys golf team recorded its best 18-hole team score at the Illinois Central Eight (ICE) Conference Tournament, finishing third with a total of 342. The tournament took place on Monday, September 22, at Wolf Creek Golf Course.

Coach Harlan Kennell expressed his satisfaction with the team's progress. "I am very proud to see our players continuing to improve this season. They are definitely ready for the IHSA postseason," Kennell said.

Jaxon Duke and Frankie Ponio earned All Conference Awards for their performances. Duke finished third overall in the conference season with a 43.7 average among 48 golfers, while Ponio placed eleventh with a 45.7 average. Other team members who competed were Kory Lovell, Cody Scheer, and Reed Sulzberger.

The Coal City Community Unit School District 1 includes several schools in Grundy and Will counties: Coal City Early Childhood Center, Coal City Elementary School, Coal City High School, Coal City Intermediate School, and Coal City Middle School (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
