On February 25, 2025, a gas leak occurred in the 600 block of Mawman Avenue in Lake Bluff due to the activities of a private contractor. The incident, which took place around 11:55 AM, prompted the evacuation of nearby Forest Bluff School. Staff and students were relocated to the Lake Bluff Library for the remainder of the day.

Authorities requested residents within a two-block radius to evacuate while efforts were made to contain and mitigate the leak. The Public Safety Building was opened for displaced residents, and North Shore Gas responded promptly to address the situation.

As of 1:45 PM, residents have been permitted to return home; however, gas service may still be unavailable in certain areas.
