Grayslake Central and Grayslake North High Schools recently hosted their annual Multicultural Night celebrations, events characterized by cultural connection and community engagement. The gatherings featured vibrant booths, engaging performances, and attracted a significant turnout of students, families, and community members.

At Grayslake North, the event titled Multicultural Knight—honoring the school’s Knight mascot—was held for the second consecutive year and recorded its largest audience to date. Attendees experienced a diverse showcase of global cultures through student-led booths offering activities such as henna, art displays, games, live music, karaoke, and an array of traditional foods.

“I just wanted to send a huge thank you for all of our wonderful booths and attendees of Multicultural Knight this year!” said Ashley Kunz, Social Studies Teacher & PSP Sponsor. “The event was so much fun, and I cannot wait to host it again next year. We had an AMAZING turnout of both booths and guests, and I'm looking forward to expanding even more next year. ”

Over at Grayslake Central, the Multicultural Day mirrored similar levels of enthusiasm and significance. Students and staff collaboratively shared languages, clothing styles, historical backgrounds, and cuisines that represented their unique heritages.

These events embody Grayslake District 127’s Portrait of a Learner initiative which envisions students as Empowered Citizens and Collaborative Workers who value multiple perspectives and actively participate in building inclusive communities.

Multicultural Night also emphasized student leadership roles. Students from the Public Service Practicum (PSP) at both schools were instrumental in organizing the events.

“Whether you shared a booth, brought your family or simply stopped by to show support you were part of something meaningful,” said Dianna Repp, Student Life Coordinator. “We’re grateful, and we’re already looking ahead to next year. ”
