The City of Highland Park invites the community to attend its annual Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 26, at 11 AM. The event will be held at the Highland Park High School Auditorium (433 Vine Ave.) in collaboration with American Legion Post #145, Jewish War Veterans Post #29, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4737.
Captain Steven Yargosz, USN, Commander of Naval Station Great Lakes, is set to deliver the keynote address. The City acknowledges and appreciates the partnership of Naval Station Great Lakes in honoring fallen service members.
Highland Park Poet Laureate Laura Joyce-Hubbard will present a poem written specifically for this occasion. Additionally, the Highland Park High School band will perform patriotic music as part of the ceremony which will also include a bell ceremony.
In recognition of Memorial Day, City administrative services will be closed on Monday, May 26. Residents requiring non-emergency assistance can contact the public safety line at 847.432.7730.
It is noted that refuse, recycling, and curbside compost collection will experience a one-day delay throughout the week. For inquiries regarding the pickup schedule, residents are advised to reach out to Lakeshore Recycling Systems at 773.685.8111.
Transportation services via Highland Park Connector and Pace Bus Routes 471 and 472 will not operate on Monday, May 26 due to the holiday but will resume normal service for the rest of the week.
