The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a North Chicago man for trafficking methamphetamine from a home daycare. This arrest was part of an investigation conducted by its Special Investigations Group, which is funded by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the Special Investigations Group initiated an investigation after receiving information about Delwin L. Hodge, 27, who was allegedly selling narcotics. Undercover operations revealed that Hodge sold over 200 grams of methamphetamine to detectives. A search warrant executed at his residence on July 31, 2025, uncovered packaging materials, a firearm, and ammunition. Authorities indicated that evidence suggested drugs had been flushed prior to their entry and noted that an unsecured firearm was accessible to children at the home, which also operated as a daycare. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was notified.
Following this investigation, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved multiple charges against Hodge. These include three counts of unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (Class 4 felony), and misdemeanor child endangerment. As Hodge was on parole, the Illinois Department of Corrections issued a parole violation warrant. He remains in custody awaiting his initial court hearing with prosecutors planning to seek detention until trial.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said: "It is absolutely unacceptable for anyone to traffic dangerous drugs in our community, especially from a home where children are present." He added that "the fact that methamphetamine was being sold and a firearm was left accessible in a daycare environment is beyond reckless." Idleburg expressed pride in "the outstanding work our Special Investigations Group and SWAT did to safely apprehend this individual and prevent further harm."
