The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has announced the recovery of 71 stolen LG appliances, valued in the tens of thousands of dollars, alongside homemade explosives during a search in unincorporated Barrington.

According to the Sheriff's Office, detectives initiated an investigation after receiving information about a man selling new appliances at unusually low prices through social media. Undercover officers purchased an LG oven from Jeffery L. Hendon, Jr., 36, of West Cuba Road, which was confirmed as stolen. The oven and other LG appliances were reportedly taken in February from a warehouse in Lockport as part of a shipment stolen from a cargo truck at a distribution center. A search warrant for Hendon's property led to the recovery of 71 stolen LG ovens and dryers.

During the search, detectives also discovered a large quantity of suspected homemade explosives. The Waukegan Bomb Squad safely removed and disposed of these materials. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved charges against Hendon for online sale of stolen goods (Class 2 felony), theft over $10,000 (Class 2 felony), and unlawful possession of explosives (Class 3 felony), with additional charges possible. Hendon is scheduled to appear in court, and all defendants are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

"Theft on this scale not only impacts the businesses targeted but also drives up costs for consumers," said Sheriff John D. Idleburg. "Thanks to the thorough work of our detectives and the cooperation of our law enforcement partners, we recovered stolen property, removed dangerous explosives from the community, and are holding the offender accountable."

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is tasked with maintaining order, upholding laws, and protecting individual rights within the community. It emphasizes service through education, communication, partnerships, and enforcement to build public trust. Its core values include integrity, respect, and professionalism. The office holds accreditation that ensures adherence to recognized standards in law enforcement since its founding in 1839.
