The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has announced an investigation into a car versus pedestrian crash that occurred in Ingleside on the afternoon of August 13, 2025. The incident is currently being examined by crash investigators.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded at approximately 1:50 p.m. to a reported collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Big Hollow Road near Leonard Avenue in Ingleside. Upon arrival, they found a 79-year-old woman with serious injuries who was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Preliminary information suggests that the woman may have memory issues and left her residence without her caretaker's knowledge, which could have contributed to her presence in the roadway.

The vehicle involved was identified as a Nissan Altima traveling eastbound, driven by a 41-year-old woman from Wood Dale. Evidence at the scene indicates that the pedestrian was walking in the roadway and that the driver attempted to swerve to avoid hitting her but was unsuccessful. A small child present in the vehicle was unharmed. The driver is cooperating with authorities, and the crash remains under active investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team, which continues to gather evidence and review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is tasked with maintaining order, upholding laws, and protecting individual rights within the community. It emphasizes service through education, communication, partnerships, and enforcement with an aim to build public trust. Its core values include integrity, respect, and professionalism. The history of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office dates back to its founding in 1839 and has seen expansions over time including additions made in 1895 for jail and courthouse facilities. In 1986, the Robert H. Babcox Justice Center was constructed to house both the sheriff’s office and correctional facilities; it was named after Sheriff Babcox who served from 1982–1988. The office continues efforts to modernize in order to serve Lake County's growing population effectively.
