Lindenhurst Fire & Police Commission approve search for new commander

Large firetruck

Chief Tom Jones and Commissioners William Douglas and Dan White convened at 4:15 p.m. Feb. 10 for the Lindenhurst Fire and Police Commission meeting at the police station.

Chief Jones submitted the annual budget request to the village board. The budget plan included funds for the existing vacant commander’s position as well as for testing materials. Pending approval by the village board, Chief Jones expects a mid-March start date for a three-month study period to prepare for the commander’s exam.

Commissioner Douglas made a motion to recommend that Chief Jones send out a seven-day notice to the department announcing the upcoming promotional opportunity to implement after the board has approved the budget. This notice will seek eligible applicants for the commander’s exam. Commissioner White seconded the motion.

The selection process will be similar to the previous search conducted in 2012, consisting of a 90-day study period, a mid-June exam date and the interview itself. The completion date for the commander’s position is expected to be in July.
