The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Park City man following an investigation into drug trafficking. The arrest was made by the Special Investigations Group, which is part of a federally supported task force.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Group, they began investigating Marital D. Hayes, 39, of Park City after receiving reports of his involvement in illegal drug sales. An undercover operation revealed that Hayes, who has a prior felony record, was distributing crack cocaine and heroin mixed with fentanyl. A search warrant executed at his residence on June 16 uncovered more than 40 grams of crack cocaine, nearly 10 grams of fentanyl-laced heroin, and a loaded firearm.
Following this discovery, prosecutors reviewed the case and filed eight charges against Hayes. These include multiple counts of possessing controlled substances with intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a weapon. The state’s attorney intends to request that Hayes remain in custody while awaiting trial. He is currently held at the Lake County Jail. Local police departments from Gurnee and Park City assisted in the investigation. Hayes has not yet appeared in court and remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty through legal proceedings.
