Village of Round Lake Beach debates liquor license issue

Bukanas sports bar

To address police pay scale issues along with a liquor license update, Village President Jan MacGillis called a Round Lake Beach meeting to order 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at 1937 North Municipal Way.

Mayor Richard Hill thanked all that participated in the Bernie’s Book Bank Collection, which was organized by the Goddard School.

Also on the table was last month’s Liquor Commissioner Hearing regarding violations, fines and the closure of Bukanas Sports Bar, located at 259 North Cedar Lake Road. The establishment lost their late-night liquor license for the next two years.

Trustee Charlie Foy brought up news of the village losing “another” police officer. He stated that Round Lake Beach offers one of the lowest starting pay rates in the police department. Considering the cost of sending a person into the training academy, only to lose them to a better-paying jurisdiction, Foy suggested that “we need to take a look at the pay a little closer.”

The group approved minutes from its previous regular meeting on Jan. 4 as well as a consent agenda, consisting of accounts payable, payroll for early January and the November Treasurer’s report.

Finally, the trustees accepted a Well No. 3 Feasibility Study Report prior to adjournment.
