Libertyville FD responds to 108 fires in 2016

Libertyville Fire Department responded to 860 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Lake County Gazette.

The calls in Libertyville included 108 fires - 71 structure fires, 17 vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,275,873 in fire loss - or about $21,073 per fire.

The department also received 752 false calls, including two malicious calls and 750 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury and one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Libertyville Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 41 active employees and 23 retired or inactive employees, was $1,442,326 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $13,355 for every fire in 2016.
