Libertyville promoting Giving Tuesday

Fund

Libertyville is encouraging kind and charitable acts by participating in and promoting Giving Tuesday on Nov. 28, the city's website said.

The effort will employ social media in order to bring attention to ways to give for organizations, businesses and people during the holiday season.

A directory of nonprofits is available at the David Adler and Music and Arts Center website. The hashtags the website is promoting are #LibertyvilleLoves and #GivingTuesday.

Giving Tuesday, now it its sixth year, came about to encourage charitable acts during the time of traditional shopping days such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the city said in the posting.

In 2015, Giving Tuesday raised approximately $177 million online across 98 countries, with the mean online gift being worth $107.69. There were about 1.64 million online gifts made and 2.4 million social-media engagements.

The 92nd Street Y in New York founded Giving Tuesday in 2012 with the United Nations Foundation. From there, the event drew other partners and influencers to take the event worldwide. Giving Tuesday has established that time and talents can be donated in addition to money during the event.
