Illinois State House District 60 issued the following announcement on June 24
In the closing days of the special session held in Springfield, State Representative Rita Mayfield secured 6 million in funding for North Chicago Community Unit School District 187.
The Illinois General Assembly held a special session spanning 4 days that was dedicated primarily to meeting the urgent needs of Illinois during this time of public health crisis. Protecting workers, taking measures to extend property tax relief, making health care accessible, were among the major items. The state budget was also at the center.
For Mayfield, this meant ensuring that education would be fully funded. This included an appropriation of 6 million for NCCUSD 187. In addition, the budget provides full funding for MAP grants and AIM High scholarships.
“Working to ensure that educational opportunity is extended to all of our children is particularly important to me,” said Mayfield. “Education is needed for strong futures and strong communities. I will always fight for our children.”
