COVID News & Updates
The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting high transmission of COVID-19, with cases continuing to increase locally and across the state, with the number of new COVID-19 cases reaching all-time highs over the past week.
Public health officials urge everyone age five and older mask up, vax up, get boosted and limit in-person activities where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
What You Need To Know
- New quarantine and isolation guidance issued by the CDC.
- CDC authorizes Pfizer booster dose for individuals ages 12 and older and shortens recommendation to 5 months for those fully-vaccinated.
- COVID-19 test seekers beware. The number of illegitimate pop-up testing sites is on the rise and these sites are eager to take advantage of you. If you’re looking to get tested, find information about legitimate testing sites on the IDPH website.
West Deerfield Township Hosts Vaccination and Booster Event Sat, Jan. 8
If you’re looking for a COVID-19 vaccination or booster, West Deerfield Township (601 Deerfield Road) will be hosting a free walk-in event on Saturday, January 8 from 11 am-4 pm. No appointment necessary and no ID is required. Call 847.945.0614 with questions.
Athletic Fields Community Workshop Moved to Feb. 17
Due to the rise in COVID cases, the date for Athletic Field Improvements Community Workshop #2 has been moved to Thursday, February 17. While the workshop date has been pushed back, we remain committed to engaging the community and gathering input on this project. If you're planning to attend, please register in advance. How Does the City Prioritize Snow Removal?
During a big weather event, Snow Command uses the list above to prioritize resources for clearing snow and ice. However, during smaller weather events, many of the items listed above occur simultaneously. Learn more about Snow Operations and follow the Public Works Department on Facebook for updates on winter weather.
Christmas Tree Collection
'Tis the season to recycle your Christmas Tree! During the month of January, leave your real tree at the curb on your regular scheduled recycling days and we'll collect it to be ground up and composted. To be collected, trees 1) must be free of all lights and ornamentation, 2) must have the tree stand removed, and 3) cannot be in plastic tree bags.

Household Chemical Waste Event
Saturday, January 22
Schedule an appointment to drop off items at SWALCO's Household Chemical Waste Event at SWALCO's Gurnee Facility (1311 N. Estes Street, Gurnee, IL 60031). Collections are for residential waste only. No business waste will be accepted. Safety is crucial during your visit. Please stay in your vehicle
Accepted items include: CFL bulbs, unwanted prescription, over-the-counter medicines and supplements (people and pet), household cleaners, gasoline, garden chemicals, pesticides, oil-based paints (no latex) and varnishes, as well as other household chemicals.
