At a Sept. 12 City Council meeting, the Highland Park City Council passed an extension of a current special services agreement (SSA) for the Ravinia District.
The agreement was extended for an additional three-year term that will last from January 2023 to Dec. 31, 2025.
The SSA in place has already been very successful in revitalizing the area and was behind various events throughout the year including a candy stroll, holiday cookie events, the installation of seasonal decorations, and summer food trucks.
“These successful events have spurred new investment and attracted new businesses to the area and created community vibrancy,” Erin Jason, Highland Park assistant City manager, said at the meeting. “The positive results we are seeing are due not only to these events, but also the combined efforts of local property owners, elected officials, city staff, local businesses, and residents who have dedicated their time and passion over the years to revitalize the Ravinia district. Since its inception in 2014, the SSA has generated over $496,000 in revenue.”
The Ravinia District has been under an SSA agreement since 2014, and the agreement has been extended twice already. The SSA, which is paid for by an additional tax, receives extra support and services from the municipality than is otherwise provided normally. No changes have been made to the current agreement.
