Lake County residents have approximately one week remaining to voice their opinions on a draft report outlining strategies and recommendations aimed at reducing single-occupancy vehicle trips within the county. The report was prepared by the Lake County Division of Transportation.

According to a press release from the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT), the public comment period concludes on April 18. The draft Single Occupancy Vehicle (SOV) Reduction Report can be accessed online, after which feedback can be submitted through an online form.

The term 'single-occupancy vehicle' refers to individuals predominantly commuting alone in their cars, trucks, or vans for work purposes, as per the LCDOT press release. In Lake County, single-occupied vehicles account for 80% of these trips.

A few years ago, LCDOT initiated a study to explore potential measures to decrease this percentage, according to the same press release. The draft report encapsulates those ideas.

The LCDOT press release also notes that even a slight reduction in these trips could lead to decreased trip times, less air pollution, and lower carbon emissions. Traffic volumes have reverted back to pre-pandemic levels, says LCDOT.
