V&I Truck & Trailer Mechanics will request the Waukegan Planning and Zoning Commission to approve a conditional use permit for the property at 525 S. Thaxter Road, Waukegan. The partners intend to operate a semi-truck and trailer repair facility at that location.
According to the commission's agenda for the rescheduled meeting, the Waukegan Municipal Planning and Zoning Commission will consider the applicant's request at its June 27 meeting, which had been postponed from June 13.
V&I Truck & Trailer Mechanics is owned and operated by Ivan Costas, who has 15 years of related experience, and Victor Popovic, who has 20 years of related business experience. They plan to perform oil and filter changes, tire changes, tire rotations, suspension work, brake jobs, engine and transmission overhauls, tune-ups (spark plugs, ignition coils, air filters, cabin air filters), and electrical work.
The building on the property has 5,319 square feet of space. The business will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. According to Costas and Popovic, semi-truck drivers would finish their morning and day shifts, bringing their trucks and trailers to get serviced during those times. As they are new to Waukegan, they are not certain of peak operational hours yet.
The two partners are currently the only employees of the business. They will always be present during business hours.
