FOIA Request Sent to City Of Highwood Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Highwood Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

As a part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Lake County Gazette have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

The requested information pertains to sales tax records from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. Specifically, we have asked for a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city during this period. The requested details include the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid by each entity.

In addition to this, we have also sought information about the total amount of sales tax that the city collected during this period.

Access to public records is crucial for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As media professionals engaged in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver.

We look forward to receiving these records in an electronic format as it would greatly aid our efforts in keeping our readers informed about their local government's financial operations.
